[TechAssist] What to use to read .pdf files?

Friends,

Last week, when my computer "burped," I lost a bunch of programs.  Still
finding glitches.  Went to play some Christmas music on the
computer--found Windows Media Player corrupt.  Downloaded that.  Now OK.

Went to read schematics from disk.  Computer could read the file--it
asked what program to use?

Probably a very simple question for you computer-savy geniuses, but I
don't have a clue.
