We kept at this set with a few suggestions from Peter Kowalik and Jim = McVey, thanks all. I narrowed down the "hot/cold" area to the two surface mount capacitors = that connect the two crystal lines to ground (pins 62 and 63 on the microprocessor I believe). We removed those caps, and then cleaned rosin = and glue gunk that was under them and the set ran fine. We replaced the caps = and the set has been running well for three days, and no amount of heat = under there causes problems anymore. Bottom line, glue/rosin under crystal caps. We found that the problems were caused = by a number of .01 disc caps that either had heated up and gone leaky or had small cracks in their cases allowing a bit of moisture to enter. These = caps were invariably on data lines and caused numerous strange symptoms. = Peter Kowalik pe.kow@xxxxxxxxxxxx Keith's Stereo Burl On -----Original Message----- From: techassist-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:techassist-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of Art Bevilacqua Sent: May 19, 2004 9:26 AM To: techassist@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [TechAssist] FW: Panasonic CT27G14A, Chassis AP330, (NA6DV), Vertical, sound and OSD problem This set is driving us crazy - it came in because vertical would pull in after the set was warm. We also observed that after running a while, the = =3D on screen display would break up into "hash", sprayed across the screen, = =3D and sometimes the sound would go all the way up. When the sound would go =3D wild, we would loose control of the set through the front buttons until the = =3D set was unplugged or cooled down. I replaced the microprocessor and it ran for three days only. My father = =3D has been heating and cooling (and replacing) other parts in the micro area, = =3D such as the eprom and the combo filter chip. Still, heating and cooling =3D almost anything in that area causes the problems to come and go. I discovered that heating and cooling from the bottom of the board also affects things, but I haven't been able to isolate it to a single part. Everything has been resoldered. There are not any glue deposits under = =3D there that we can see. Has anyone experienced this with one of these before?
