Paul, Before you order a new capstan motor, try this...Get a toothbrush and Windex and scrub the audio head, erase head, any tape contact point. Check your supply wheel and tension band, especially if you see the supply tension arm vibrating. If that fails and you can pull the capstan motor out and run it, take a screwdriver, place it near or on the bearing and put your ear on the handle end of the screwdriver. You might hear the bearing growl or rumble, if so you'll have to replace/repair the motor.
