HI Mark,

 If it's a switched-mode supply, just about anything that loads it down will
cause it to squeal. I've had RCA's w/ shorted horizontal outputs that
squealed like crazy when plugged in.

My point is, look for something that is shorted, on either the standby, or
run supply.
