[TechAssist] Re: Sony VCR SLV-585HF Capstan Problem - FIXED (NOT)

Tape played fine for almost 30 minutes...dang...started same intermittent
pausing again. I think this capstan motor is bad, does anyone have one in
their boneyard? Also, would anyone have a partial schematic for the capstan
circuit, I want to confirm what is happening here. Thanks in advance.

Problem was one of the capstan coils worn through shorting to ground. A
small washer (spacer) was installed, now the capstan runs great, not warming
up, no more friction sound. Thanks to all that suggested this fix. Now all I
need is an original remote and a shuttle knob, if anyone has these parts
please contact me. Thanks again.

I usually try to oil it to see if it goes longer before replacing it. How
warm does it get after playing for a bit?
