bill in that trippler if im not mistaken the way you measure the hv is on 
the last plug thats covered the one that there is no connection  you uncover 
the plug and connect the hv probe there dont disconnect the flyback going to 
the trippler because you will loose hv regulation. thats why It pegs at 40 
kv I would think its you convergence thats defective.
