Over the past 40 years I have bought a lot of Sencore equipment and been
very pleased with it. However I too bought a few I wish I could forget.
VC93 $3002.60 in July 1991: used it to analyze one VCR repair job. Took
several hours to do all the hookups to prove what was bad. Got $60 labor for
the job. Determined that any job I needed it for would cost more than the
customer was willing to pay. Never used it again on a VCR but I do use the
audio signal on stereos occasionally.
Then there was the CB debacle. Bought the analyzers and a B&K scope that was
capable of seeing the 27mhz (back in '77 most TV scopes didn't go that high
and Sencore didn't make one) plus a subscription to Sams CB manuals. Five
years later I had spent $5000 on CB stuff and done less than $1000 in repair
work. The guys who didn't have the necessary FCC 2nd Phone license, and were
willing to do the illegal work, got all the jobs. I sold the Sams and the
equipment to a truck driver from Mississippi who was tired of driving and
wanted to set up a CB shop at his local truck stop. Got less than $500 for
it and felt lucky to get that.
Most useful have been: VA62, SC61, LC77.\ and the Cricket.
