If you don't want to save the original surface mount IC, take a sharp 
Exacto knife and cut off the tiny legs against the IC body, then clean 
up the circuit board with wick after the IC is gone. Then flow the 
solder over the pins of the new IC and then use wick to suck up the 
access and then use a spy glass to check that there are no bridges 
across leads.
