Terry,
First, this chassis has no relay "click" when plugged in. The 195 will chirp
when first plugged in. If you hear that chirp, the supply is running.
There are so many things that can kill a set. It is true that this chassis
has had bad flybacks. There are two flybacks for the 195. The 239111 version
is the one that failed. We do work for three shops, I have NEVER changed the
other type (250694), always the 239111 one would fail.
If there is no short on the B+ line, and there is nothing wrong with IC2bus,
and all standbys are ready, the set will fire, or attempt to fire even with
a bad flyback. The set will shut down with a bad primary or secondary
winding in the flyback.
About 30% of the 239111's I have changed had no primary or secondary short.
There was a breach in the housing of the transformer. In other words it
would arc, and in most cases short the HOT.
If you are not skilled, it can be very difficult locating a corrupted data
or clock line on the bus. I have had on several occasions with the 195 and
197, surface mount caps that were loading the clock lines.
You need a schematic, DMM, O-scope (in some instances) and of course, some
level of skill and knowledge.
Tony,
Telerama Television
