I seem to be having difficulty posting tonight. Please disregard this
same reply under the "Re: RCA VR526 [repost]" thread.


A HOT is just a component like everything else, it is mortal. Nothing
lasts forever, and therefore why should it be expected that a HOT is
invincable? I say of course they can short out all by themselves. Hey, I
once broke a stainless steel knife in half just cutting into butter. It
was either metal fatigue or a flaw in the metal. Same thing will happen
with silicon or any other substance on this earth.
