I searched my email archives and found this thread. Aparently this bad 
transistor can load down things and cause strangr symptoms, and it is a 
repeat offender: Read on:

 from Global (in Stock)
 These burn up all the time and cause exactly what your having problems

 with.

 Use RCA original only. We've tried other subs but with no luck.
