Hi Mark; Even tho the relay is used as part of the degaussing circuit, the thermistor is still used to allow the current to go through the degaussing coil. As the temp of the thermistor goes up, the resistance also goes too which then limits the degaussing effect. Hence the reason why you see all the thermistors cracked and broken and so forth. By shorting the degaussing coil circuit via the thermistor, you would defeat the manufactuer design and safety features. So do yourself a favor and order five of those thermistors and keep them on hand and replace liberally. You will have done yourself a favor as well as the customer...
