I've killed mine a time or two also but at 2 bucks or less a shot it 
makes a cheap test jig. I just use one with an internal damper since an 
extra damper does not hurt anything and the B to E resistor doesn't make 
any difference either. Just for a quick test anyway. DISCLAIMER! Anyone 
else reading this through GOOGLE or any other source be sure to always 
finish the repair by installing original or better parts.
