[TechAssist] Re: Q-Tip

The method I use was shown to me by the national service manager of
Panasonic Canada a number of years ago. You take a lint-free cloth which
does not have a loose weave (such as that from a work shirt with tight
weave- sorry I'm not much good at describing cloth) and you dip your
head cleaner alcohol on the cloth, then insert a dummy cassette into the
vcr and press play. Then hold the wet cloth up against the drum,
applying a little but not much pressure on the drum. You can go gently
up and down the drum without worry of snapping the heads because the
drum is spinning very fast. Yes, the cloth usually ends up with black
streaks on it. Works fine and I use the same piece of cloth for a year
or so, until there is no more clean area left on it.

I wouldn't use a Qtip to clean video heads. Too easy for the fibres to
get caught in the heads and possible do damage.
