Thanks for the input, Marty. I know what you mean by chain reaction. I
worked on a Sony receiver a while back and they had the strangest
circuitry. There were about 7 or 8 small transistor 2SA988's all blown.
Anyway, on this unit I already had all the parts delivered by the time
you wrote, so I installed everything and now the unit has been running
fine for a few days now. You are correct in the fact that it took a
while to complete this repair. I had to thoroughly inspect every part on
the amp board. Found a few 1/4 W resistors open besides these glass
diodes and driver and output transistors. The dual emitter resistor in
the right channel was also open (2x 0.27 ohm 5W). Also went over 2/3 of
the board with solder. For once in a long while something worked for me
when I first plugged it in after repair. RELIEF!
