Jeff, If this rmt rcvr is the type that is enclosed in a plastic(maroon)case, it will have some defective filter caps in the unit. They are about $35 dealer cost from Philips. I have had good sucess with repairing. The only hard part is finding a cap small enough to fit inside the case. You can usually find some small ones in a VCR. Good luck and good hunting.
