[TechAssist] Re: Philips 9P5534C101 Nightmare

Hi Gary,

Sorry I don't have the PTV 835 manual in front of me. The source of both
problems lies in either your SMPS or your IHVT, I believe both have a
regulated supply (in other words, the IHVT actually has it's own regulation
circuit). So to find the problem, trace your 36V supplies 1st, if it's
source is the IHVT, then you'll have to monitor the B+ supply and the IHVT's
regulator at the same time to identify which one is the cause.

PTV835). Bad enough always having to work on Sunday but what a start to the
day! Customer complaint was pulsating picture so I was surprised when I
arrived and the picture was full but no convergence.

2amp fuses blown on the digital convergence panel. I replaced the 2
STK392-110 and all fuses and turned on the set. Surprise! Small pulsating
block with no picture. After 45 seconds a picture appeared but it was still
small. No blown fuses this time... Unplugging the wire from the large
signal module restored a full picture with no convergence. I "assumed"
there was probably a problem with the 5v regulators on the convergence board
but was surprised to find perfect 5v regulation out of both when I
reconnected the wire. After 10 minutes both +36 and -36 fuses blew on the
large signal board. I decided to just get a new digital convergence board
and unplugged the wire going back to the large signal module so the customer
could try to "watch" the set today. That was the BIG surprise.. After the
set was off and cooled down the picture pulsed six or eight times before
staying on with a full picture (no
> convergence). Now I'm wondering if I need BOTH boards! If both 2amp
fuses were not blown on the convergence module I would just assume the large
signal module was the whole problem.
