Had something simmilar in a Zenith a couple of months ago that had a burr on
the heatsink for the STR53041 regulator (this was a late chassis 9-19xx
series with the regulator in the front right poartion of the board) the burr
damaged the Mica insulator and caused it to short at power on blowing one of
the power resistors it was a real pain to find too.

Set came in dead, found D552 shorted and replaced.. Fired set up with
varac, came on and went dead... Output transistor checked ok....Thought
maybe transformer was bad...Scoped horiz drive to the output every checked
ok until set went dead....Removed output transistor cleaned compound from
back.. Dam, it had a pinhole and shorting out at turn on....Hope this helps
