[TechAssist] PA pioneer audio KR-A550.. CD assembly

This unit belongs to a friend of mine that he got at the commissary.
This unit will not read CD's, display shows no disk. I stuck a cleaning disk in 
and it started to work,
but failed on the third disk. I took unit apart and cleaned the lens with no 
help.
CD says it is a Sanyo #SF-P101. I can not find this using Pioneer's part site 
or at any distributors.
Or does this unit have known problems for intermittent cables?
