For the ganged tuning capacitor (air tuning cap): If noisey when 
rotating thru the tuning range, look where the movable part mounts,you 
will see two or three ball bearing assys holding it (the rotor) to the 
stationary part (stator). Use a needle to drop a small amount of tuner 
lube there. Get none on any tuning plates.The tuning cap gets it's 
ground thru the ball bearings and the old grease insulates this from 
happening.
As for the main filter cap, yes, leave the old in place but I would 
disconnect it from the circuit.It may short Vs simply weaken. I've seen 
restorers hollow out the can abd insert the replacements inside. But 
that's a bit anal... ;-):
