[TechAssist] Re: **** Notice!!!!!

As one of the older guys on the list, I can tell you, I would rather be
retired.

Thirty seven years ago, I bought a 12 room house with two, three room
apartments that I rent out.
I kept the six room apartment to raise my family in. When the kids were
gone,
I planned to make the three upstairs bedrooms into another three room
apartment.
When I bought the house the zoning law said I could have four apartments or
three apartments with a home business (my TV shop).
I figured when I was ready to retire, the mortgage would be paid off and
with
the income from three apartments plus  Social Security, I would be all set
with only taxes to pay.

Several things went wrong with my retirement plan.

1) The mortgage never got paid off because I had to keep re-financing the
house to make up for the dwindling TV repair income.

2) My SS is about half what it should be, because of the low income over the
years from TV repair. I had only one year that I paid in the maximum to SS.

3) "Kids" keep coming back like rubber balls.

4) Last year, I went to get the permit to put in the third apartment and was
informed the voters changed the zoning law the previous year, so I can't add
the
4th apartment.

Under my original plan I would have had no mortgage payment and ~$3000/mo.
rent coming in, plus ~$1500 social security. Total $4000/mo. income after
property taxes. Plenty to cover heat and utilities and living expenses and
go on cruises and maybe even have internet.

Reality:  The rent covers mortgage and taxes and I have $875/mo. SS which
isn't enough to cover heat, utilities and living expenses and still be able
to leave the house for even a coffee break.

So I'm still fixing TVs and probably will have to, until I die.
