Thanks to Dennis & Jerry,I can vouch for this. I did 32 Yrs of TV Repair
most of it back in the tube type era. Once this lady brought her TV to my
shop & explained that it had a very loud squeal. Next morn. I fired it
up & worked beautiful. as I sat 7 watched it waiting for it to squeal, my
wife happened to walk in the shop, & immediately she covered both ears &
screamed whats that . I said what is what, after she explained, I had a
good friend that was a Tech at RCA Svc.Center, so I paid him a visit. He
told me it was coming from the Flyback Transf, & you could sometimes
quiet it. by using toothpicks & wedging them in places between the
windings & The iron core, I think I used 3 t-picks, & quieted it. Had to
use my wifes ears to tell me when. Also now we have a telephone, (not
Cordless) and I'm sitting right next it, & she comes & answers the
phone, & Ive never heard it.& she says its very loud. The cordless phone
in same room I have ringer turned down low, & i hear it loud &
clear.L.A.Helton.
