After I sent my post this morning about the back tension arm coming back too
far and locking the supply reel I tackled a 2003 model Emerson tvcr (same as
Funai, Symphonic, Sylvania) that had two problems. When it ejected, the tape
was left out, and about half the time the basket did not come all the way
back so it just went back in. If there was no tape in it when it did that,
the power would shut off.
The supply reel was locked because the back tension arm was coming back too
far and supergluing in a stop took care of that so when it ejected all the
tape was in the cassette. You can also tell if it has this problem by
manually turning the take up reel in the eject position. It should turn
freely.
The basket problem was caused by the metal hook that pulls it back slipping
off of the pin that it pulls on. The plastic pin had worn and its shape had
changed. I bent the hook over a little more to accommodate the new shape of
the pin and that took care of that problem
