You do not give enough info such as model/age/mechanism type, to give a
specific answer but I have some suggestions. Of course the first suspect is
always the mode switch and the part number changes almost every year. I
always recommend replacing them and not cleaning them. If it's an older one
with the load belt in the back I always replace the belt and worm gear and
lube it real good. The newer ones with the load belt on the side has the
rack assembly on the side of the basket that likes to give trouble. Another
difficult problem I have seen a couple times is a bad load motor, it can
have a dead spot in the brushes and fail to turn once in a while. Bad
capstan motor drive circuits are common but that is not likely to be
intermittent. Check the cassette holder for being deformed. Instruct the
customer that if it happens again to leave the cassette in the machine so
you can see what it is doing, and also they are less likely to damage the
mechanism by removing it. If you have a question about a specific model let
me know. My "combi model cross" is still on the members page (I need to
update it), that gives the part numbers for mode switches and other common
parts. John.
