I have used dampered transisors in non-dampered sets without problems, it is
when you use non-dampered transistors in a set that requires damper diodes
that overheating problems arise. Generally if I can't reference a output
transistor and I need to replace one and don't want to wait to order the
exact part I'll put in the transistor with the highest voltage and current
ratings and the fastest switch time. usually this avoids delterious
problems, there could be possible problems but I haven't had a significant
one in a number of years. (you do need to watch as not all parts are equal
and sometimes you can get a bad batch of parts, but not often, The only ones
that come to mind were gold lettered 2sd1880's that would overheat whereas
the silver labeled did not. Take this as you may but as always proceed with
caution, check the HOT temp after 1 min, 5min, ... to ensure problem free
operation. (pull the plug first as some chasis are live) temprature of
transistor should be cool enough to touch without causing pain/burns...)))
