[TechAssist] Microsoft .NET Password Account.

Microsoft .NET Passport account has asked me to verify with my Email address
and ISP, so that these things can all be tied together.
Is there any advantage to this. I don't like to give Microsoft any more
then I have to, as far as information.
Anyone know why I would need Microsoft .NET?
