[TechAssist] Re: Magnavox MS3650C129 & MS3250C121, M8 chassis option bytes

Turn the set on and put it into factory mode right away, that's A-26 on the
FMR, the shutdown circuits should be disabled in factory mode and the set
should then stay on. As far as the shutdown problem is concerned it may be
just a matter of getting the screen control on the flyback set right. I've
found that this chassis will shutdown if the screen is set too low or too
high. If you can get it to stay on like this adjust the screen up till you
get retrace lines then back it off just to the point where the lines
disappear. There is also a 9v regulator ic that could be the problem, I've
seen a tip on that somewhere, check the archives at

I have a Magnavox MS3250 C121 tv in for repair. It is a showroom unit and
shuts down after about 2 minutes. I also have the new factory remote
(4835-310-57511). I have tried it for a minute or so but the trouble is that
the set does not stay on long enough to use the remote or at least to see
any results. By the way I am new to the Philips line ( at least to the new
ones but I sold them in the 80s).
I am not sure how to use the remote or how to go about troubleshooting this
unit as I wasted over 4 - 6 hours trying to find the problem.
