Some DVD player manufacturers developed DVD +R playing capability and
some went for DVD -R, and now most new players will play either type of
disc. I have a Pansonic DVD player here that will only play DVD discs
that are of the DVD -R variety and this player is not all that old.

Might be best to ask the customer what brand of machanine they own and
how old it is. Perhaps there might even be information on the net as to
what type of discs are playable in various brands/ models. Maybe we can
start up a chart. Here's what I can contribute so far:

Panasonic DVD player model DVD-RV22- plays DVD -R only

JVC DVD player model XV-S300BK - plays both DVD +R and DVD -R equally
well

Electrohome DVD player (same as Emerson -unknown model)- plays both
DVD -R and DVD +R equally well
-
