Don, you have described the problem on my unit to a tee. "Cassette ''B''
assy
would lock up intermittently. Sometimes you could not even open the
door." My customer even complained about the CD not working also,
although I haven't seen it act up while working on the unit. I did clean
the cd mech and motors.

I have gone ahead and changed the 2 cassette drive belts as Ed
suggested. I used SBS 10.0 from Global. They are just slightly shorter
than the original belts in the unit.

After installing the belts, I played with the cassette operation,
switching from deck A to B, back and forth, plus changing direction of
play. Also rewound tape to beginning, etc. I haven't declared it
repaired yet (Ed will get a hoot out of that comment) but I am thinking
that the belts were the cause of the lock up. I didn't suspect the belts
because they seemed to be snug enough, not loose.

for a bad CD player,ie wouldn't play disc's.A new spindal motor fixed
that problem but didn't want to spend any more money on the repair. This
seems to be a common problem with these shelf systems. The decks are
seldom used on these units so I'm wondering if non use is a factor or
just the manf's using poor quality tape decks??

I have this JVC Mini Stereo model MX-J10 in the shop. Every once in a
while, the solenoids in the cassette mechanisms will keep clicking. I
removed the cassette mech. and checked for sticky operation, etc. but
found nothing. I did change the solenoid driver transistors in case they
were intermittantly leaking. Now after it's back together I notice the
problem seems to occur when the cassette tape is at the end of travel
and attempts to start playing in the reverse direction. The solenoid
just keeps clicking and the drive doesn't go into play like it should.

Does anyone have experience with repairing this problem? I have already
spent more time on it than I should have and will just return unit to
customer if I can't go any further on it.
When the unit is working, it works perfectly. I can reverse direction
play, rewind, FF, etc. all ok. The motor speed is ok too. Just when it
decides to act up, the solenoid in one cassette mech. keeps clicking
Thanks for any help.
