[TechAssist] Hurricane Jeanne: survived intact-back in business in Polk County,Fl

Our home was spared, unlike many. No damages other than a large tree
fell. Chain saws running two days.Pain killers for my back, had to go
on, no stopping. No water several days or electric 4 days.Hot... Last
night got electric back. First thing was turn on the central air! Spent
a day in search of gas for truck and small generator that powered one
5,000 BTU bedroom window unit and some lights and cieling fans in rest
of house.("back fed" it thru a 220 breaker that was used for the irrig.
pump) We have my 92 yr old mom with us so air cond. is a must.Let her
have that room. She's pioneer stock, tho. Camping equipement allowed us
to cook, have light when generator was off,etc.12VDC 5" TV was
welcomed.Shop didn't even get a drop inside, tho I plastic wrapped
everything (PTV's, equipement, desks, PCs,etc). Taped the lower part of
front metal door so water couldn't seep in if rain caused water to get
higher than the door sill.Better than sand bags.Just got power,
cable, phone and internet back here at shop.Unboarded front of store.
Looks normal now. Many here still without anything.Power crews doing 17
hr shifts. Most all rivers and lakes are almost full to the edge.Manhole
sanitary sewer covers bouncing ,spewing water like artisian wells. Some
communities on rivers are flooded. Many who evacuated their homes when
power went out, have had their homes burn up when power was restored
because stoves, etc were left on. Power comes back, stove, electric range
powers on with things setting on top of them, catches fire while people
away at shelters. Came back to see only ashes.
Considering, I am blessed, and I know it.
Thanks for all the well wishes. We will survive.
Phil
