[TechAssist] Hitachi website

I called the Hitachi Technical Support line at (619) 591-5352 Friday at 11 am
EST and was told that the (AT&T?) server was having problems. The Hitachi
representative said that they did not yet have an estimated date & time when it
would be up and running again.

In another related problem, 2 days ago (and this morning) I visited the
"Hitachi TSS Log" section of Dennis Vierecks' excellent website:
http://wa6ati.com/ and encountered the following message:
"I have been requested to remove this vendors TSS logs. I may be able them back
in the event that I password protect the TSS logs from general public view.
I have tried to keep this site free and open but it looks like this will not be
possible if consumers get this information and use it against the manufactures
to presure them in return authorizations and refunds. I will start to password
protect these TSS logs in the next few months. Please be patient in this
situation.

The ongoing and increasing problems of obtaining parts and service data is
making the electronics business a daily nightmare.
Add that to the ever increasing difficulty of diagnosing and repairing modern
designs and the impatient customers that we have these days and you can see why
the number of TV repair shops has decreased from 20,000+ in 1992 to just over
7000 in 2004.
(Source of number of shops: Story in Washington Post newspaper earlier this
year, based on an article which they said originated in Consumer Reports
magazine)
