I agree Jerry, if you had a large enough operation so you could have a VCR specialist or a camera specialist, it could have been quite profitable at one time. But for a one man shop like mine it was never going to be. While in the 30s through the 70s a one man TV shop was practical. Most grew larger because they had to due to customer demand, not because the original owner wanted to.
