We got Channel 15-1 SD, Chan 15-2 HD and Chan 15-3 Weather Radar....now go figure that one out....I thought there was only room for 2 broadcasts per channel allocation.....saw it on one of the ATSC terrestrial set-top boxes. I suspect tho' that SD is on 15-1 and 2 right now. But the display did indicate what was what... When you SEE a | 1080 once you will know it. My set does not indicate what format/resolution | it is in, but I have seen channel 9-1 and channel 9-2 in 16x9, that | precludes 1080 due to bandwidth restrictions, and it looks a world better | than DVD, which leads me to conclude that those programs would be 720p. | Then go to another station such as 27-1 and the picture there is a world | better. | | I read somewhere recently that the stations now can have a "smart" | capability which moves bandwidth between sub-channels. So 27-1 could be | 1080 while 27-2 is the weather radar, and if the 1080 sub-channel needs more | bandwidth it robs it from the weather radar (like that display is going to | eat digits and people are going to complain about the lost resolution). | | Wayne Vanaman | Omega Electronics | 6904 W Fairfield Dr | Pensacola, Fl. 32506-3310 | | Wayne@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx | WWW.PensacolaTVRepair.Com | | 850-456-5995 voice | 850-458-6369 fax | | | ----- Original Message ----- | From: "Intrepid Video Support" <support@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> | To: <techassist@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> | Sent: Thursday, April 01, 2004 1:21 PM | Subject: [TechAssist] Re: HDTV. | | | > Here's another question for those more knowledgeable with this.. | > We get a few HD stations..but how do you know if they are transmitting in | HD or standard definition? | > If it is 16x9, is it HD? | > We have one station, UPN, that is usually in 16x9, but the picture is a | lot more grainy than the others. | > I know CBS has daytime programming in 4x3, but after 8 pm, most | programming is in 16x9..when the signal is | > there. | > | > Jeff Dougherty | > Intrepid Video TV/VCR | > 263 S Front St | > Steelton PA 17113 | > fax...717-564-4952 | > www.intrepid-video.com www.tech-repair.net | > | > ----- Original Message ----- | > From: "Damon" <damon101@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> | > To: <techassist@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> | > Sent: Thursday, April 01, 2004 8:54 AM | > Subject: [TechAssist] Re: HDTV.
