Hi All and CM2k
Yes I did clean the lens and rotated the disc back and forth I did not =
hear a scratching noise but a did feel the disc motor get a pulse not =
enough to cause it spin. The motor is a stepper type motor not a DC type. =
Would any no have a schmatic on this unit??? Thanks

One thing I didn't see in your letter was if the laser was emitting: on =
a=20
DVD unit, it should be fairly visible...and BTW do not look directly in =
the=20
lens, if you don't want to burn your retina...

  Usually a optical system should give an "focus ok" signal when locked =
in:=20
the pickup should stop at a point in it's travel, then the routine =
continues=20
with disc spin and timing lock. A test is to rotate back and forth the =
disc=20
before the unit says "no disc". If you hear some scratching noise (the =
coils=20
staying tracked on the groove), your lens is in focus. If so, then the =
drive=20
for the motor, a heatsinked flatpack usually, or the motor itself is=20
faulty.Check with scope for square wave pulses on the motor lines....Expect=
=20
the changing of the whole Pickup mecanism if it is the culprit: usually =
sold=20
as a whole.........

   I could also add the turntable height but these are usually frozen on =
the=20
shaft and rarely go wrong...

    But try a cleaning of the lens before......

      Cm2k
