Phil,
Worked on a Sansui/Orion(UL289X), which is the mfg for the Zenith & Emerson 
combos, today. Found a bad solder joint at the output of D509. The symptom 
was the same as yours. The connection looked good, but no b+ to the hot. 
Resoldering the connection repaired the set. This set was mfg 2-95. I found 
several bad solder connections, but the one on D509 "cured" all problems.

I failed to try to put the deck back into the standby mechanical
