Al, do you have high speed internet? If so, do you have a router 
attached? If you have a router, that is a hardware firewall. That is 
what I use and I don't bother with any software firewall besides. I have 
seen a friend who uses Zone Alarm and it seems he is always fussing with 
it, having to give permissions to web sites and other stuff. That is why 
I don't bother with the software firewall. I am on DSL and I have my 
Linksys router set to disconnect after 5 minutes of non-use, to keep 
hackers from being able to spend all day trying to crack into my system.

Maybe not what everyone wants but it has been working for me.
