I picked up a Panasonic PV-DV103D video camera at a swap meet a few weeks
ago. Between the time I bought it and the time I got it home, it got the
infamous "Dew Detected" message.
I went on the net to find a solution. I tried all of them that did not
require a soldering iron. None of them worked.
Then I thought of something to try and that DID work.
First you need to figure out where the dew sensor is in the camera.
Actually pretty easy. It is at the end of a gold ribbon cable. You can
see it if you look in the open tape slot. It is screwed in to the head
assembly.
Next you need a bottle of 99% isopropitol alcohol. (99%, not 70%. 70%
has too much water.) This can be bought at any drug store or supermarket
for less than $2. You will also want a cotton swab.
Remove the battery.
Now comes the hard part. You need to remove the cover from the bottom of
the camera. (The part covering the gold cable.) You might be able to do
the rest without removing it, but it makes for better access. The hard
part is keeping track of all the screws and what goes where. (There are
two or three different lengths. Don't get them mixed up.)
When you have the cover off, take a cotton swab and cover the dew sensor
with alcohol. Use a fair amount. Make sure it gets in the loop where the
dew sensor is screwed down.
Put the cover back on. Hope you remember where all those screws went.
Let it sit overnight. (Letting the alcohol evaporate, taking whatever
moisture with it. It will probably clean the sensor as well.)
Should work fine. It did for me. Your millage may vary.
Hope that helps...
