Jose,
In theory all windings on the core (or no core) do to mutual inductance
should reflect back any shorted turns to the winding under test. I like to
add a shorted loop to verify that no major change in ringing takes place
thus it's bad and if it does drastically reduce ringing it's most likely
good. Use the drive test method to check internal HV rectifier diodes. Just
my two cents worth.
