[TechAssist] Aiwa NSXD5 Compact Stereo, Multiple Problems

This unit has two things wrong:
1. The main display is out. It's a fluorescent panel, and the
embarrassing thing is that I fixed it probably 6 years ago, and can't
remember what I did. The customer says I replaced a bulb, I might have
replaced the panel but I don't know.
2. The CD player makes "motor sounds", and it's display says open
when you press open, but the tray doesn't move. The mechanism is badly
hidden by the cassette decks, and I don't want to tear too far into it
unless I have some idea that problem one will be fixable.
