Jeff,

If the vert out is unsoldered, wouldn't this Also cause the set to go
into shutdown? You trough me when you said "op" instead of vert out
(and transistor instead of IC).

I'll try this. I take it the set may power up, but the screen will not
light up (to save the CRTs from phosphor burns).
