Peter,
refer to para 15.26 in Chapter 5 of the TSM. You can have hatching on
signalised crossings, but not zebras.

Subject: [TCUG] Zig Zag markings and controlled pedestrian crossings
Hi All,
Can any one advise on the legality of using two lines of central zig zag
markings on a single (standard two way crossing) without a central
island. Is it legal?, or does it need DfT approval, has anybody done it
to improve the conspicuity of a facility.
You help and advice would be very much appreciated.
Regards
