The gates are not a high priority. just seeing whats available. It would be great if I could find some but there is a lot of other work to be done first. I may just end up building some gates like Phil Douglas did on my old single cab out of 1" square tubing and make "air" gates. Let's take a look at yours before you spend $2K for something that doesn't fit right anyway. I have also seen some pretty nice trucks with wooden slats instead of proper gates. All you need are the hingles from the metal gates if they are beyond saving. I welded and bondo my back gate enough to look presentable until I can find something better. ----- Original Message ---- From: Mark Sawyer <mechmark@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: tcb@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Monday, October 8, 2007 1:12:24 PM Subject: [tcb] Re: need gates The passenger side and rear gate are still in reasonable shape. the drivers side gate where the hinges attach has been patched in the past and I don't think they will take patching again. There is about a 6" rust hole around each hinge area. sammie smith <bugcollections@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: Mark: Gates are a real problem and I don't think Gearson's gates are worth nearly what they are asking for them. It is an item that is findable if you look hard enough and they are also an item that any good body man can bring back to life if they are not really far gone. Usual problem is being bent in the middle, i.e., not straight, and rust rot in the lower part of the channel. They have got to be really far gone before I would buy one of the repops for a replacement at the current asking prices. A fair swap meet price for one fairly decent gate is somewhere in the ball park of $200-$250.
