Heard from Denis; he's at Chucks.  Denis, here is the instructions on the route 
that I was talking about.  Of course the quickest shortest route from Athens is 
to buzz over to I 45, turn south and don't get off till you get to there.  The 
disadvantage is you will be going through downtown Houston on Friday.
   
  The back route is to take 175 from Athens to Jacksonville, then 69 all the 
way to Kountze just north of Beaumont.  From Kountze to Winnie on 326/365/1406. 
 From Winnie to High Island on 124.  Right onto 87 at the Gulf of Mexico and 
follow down Bolivar Penninsula to the ferry and into Galveston.  My estimate 
that at 65/70 mph it would take about 5 1/2 hours from Athens on this route.
