Indy 500 sounds fun.A friend of mine on a roadtrip back in the 80s snuck past the golf course into the brickyard and down by the paddock area. After taking a few moments to walk the asphalt, and nobody chasing us off, we got back in teh car and went to get a burger at White Castle.
We laid that same friend's dad to rest today. I'm glad you're spending your time with your son.

Hey Jeff, Yep, she mentioned it to me, man, it sounds so cool, but Jake and I will be making our 3rd annual trek to the Motor Racing Capital of the World for the Indy 500. Otherwise, we'd be doing the camping thing at Krause Springs for sure. --- ATX BUS <atx_bus@xxxxxxxxx> wrote:Glad to see you made it to the list. Another Austin bus driver. I've been meaning to get on here for a while, so I'm glad I'm finally in. I have met some of y'all and I'm excited to meet all of you. Here's my VW story: My grandpa had an early 60's Single Cab, judging by the pictures I have, looks like around a '63. It was the 1st car I ever drove. I was indoctrinated at an early age. My uncle also had a 21 window that we used to go camping in many moons ago. I remember sleeping on the piece of plywood with the slot cut out of it so it would lay flat over the front seat and the steering wheel would just poke thru the hole. Fast fwd to 1983 and the first New car I ever bought was my '84 Rabbit GTI(still sitting in the corner of my shop to this day!)then I got the water cooled fever and have had 7 Sciroccos and 3 GTI's up to the point about 7 years ago when the air cooled bug inside of me finally took hold. Found my 1st Bus, '66 13 window Deluxe, Cumulus white/Sea Blue. Been working on it and driving it ever since. The way it seems with me, when one VW comes, they come in droves, like little loss sheep. I now have a '79 Westy, Mexico Beige, that we've been all over in, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Big Bend, Colorado, and to the Indy 500(unfortunately, it did not qualify for the race, we stuck to just camping in it.) I picked up "Jerry" my '65 Westy a couple of summers ago that some of you may have seen, we took it to T4P and to the Tx Classic 2 weeks ago. Jerry could probably use some fresh paint, but then again, old faded Velvet Green/rust is kinda OK with me. And then there's the '63 Single Cab that I'm working on with Jake for when he turns 16, it'll kinda complete the VW circle in my life. It's even Turkis like Pampi's was! And last week the darn water cooled fever bit and I picked up "Hopper" a '84 Rabbit convertible. It's kinda cool to drive around with no roof on your head. So, that's the story and I'm sticking to it, of course there's lots of more stories and tidbits that we all have on these crazy little machines, that's what makes having them and sharing the stories so cool. enjoy the journey, Gary --- singlecabboy <sealingwaxred@xxxxxxxxx> wrote:Welcome Gary and Terry...
