Later 64 up busses came with both sides adjustable. -- Sent from my Palm Pre On May 5, 2010 9:15 AM, sammie smith <bugcollections@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: That's a good question for the early VW engineers. Busses have a "fixed" tie rod on the right. You can only adjust the left one for toe. And of course when you do it screws up the centering of the steering wheel, which you can't adjust out like on a bug, since the right tie rod is not adjustable. You then must adjust the centering of the steering wheel by adjusting the length of the drag link. And the very close to correct "toe-in" on both busses and bugs is approximately 1/8th of an inch. And yes, it is in the Bentley somewhere. But why they ever built a "non-adjustable" tie-rod I have no idea since it makes no sense. And by the way: All of the above applies to the split bus. Don't know on a bay since I don't work on those things; but I am assuming they are the same. I stuck my head under the bus but must have been having a bad eye day. I thought it already had adjustables on both sides so I went and bought 4 new tie rod ends. Got some help and got them pulled off today and I discover that there is actually the one fixed length tie rod and one adjustable. The fixed length was installed on the driver (LEFT) side instead of on the right where it's supposed to go. So, I need to order one complete tie rod from Bus Depot. I happen to LIKE the tie rod ends that I bought from O'Reilly. They actually have grease fittings. The ones from Bus Depot don't. So, is there a compelling reason for me to order a replacement FIXED tie rod or can I just order another adjustable and use my new (with grease fittings) ends in place of the stock (no grease fittings) ends? Also, does the Bentley have the toe-in measurements in it somewhere? I'm crossing my fingers that the front wheels don't get bumped while I wait for Bus Depot shipping but ... Thx, G2
