I had fun in Lafayette. The show is small but good. The people that put it on really work their asses off. It is all about cruising and eating, lots of eating. You get there Saturday and take a long cruise to a restaurant on the shore of the Atchafalaya Basin (big lake) and eat lunch. Then, it's a long cruise back. Everyone goes to the hotel and unpacks and IT'S TIME TO CRUISE TO DINNER! at a big dance hall type place with a Cajun band. I had half a roasted duck.

Sunday, it's jambalaya! All this is held in a nice park outside of a restored 1800s village called Vermillionville, on the banks of the Vermillion River (maybe my favorite name, ever). The awards are little cypress boat paddles, pretty cool, and it should be a lesson for how simple an award can be and still be cool.

Bob and Tine were there, as were Sammy, David Blades, The Dirkson family (Chris is from there , or somesuch, and he fell into Patois pretty quickly. "You should go there, you") Mark and Emily took good care of me. Emily even tried to pump my gas when the pump trigger was not working correctly. It's not like I'm helpless, just sometimes I need help finding stuff or fixing stuff or cutting up my food. No, I can cut up my food, sometimes, if it's soft.

So, today I will stop for a short while in Baton Rouge (Red Stick) and go for tonight at an RV/campground at Hollywood Casino in Biloxi. Supposedly hookups, cable TV, Wi-Fi and the casino has three restaurants and a buffet.

I love roughing it.
