In all actuallity, I prefer to work on the splitty busses. Vanagons are a pain
to work on. (and we own 2 of them, I just don't fit behind the steering wheel
of a split.)

Ed, you're taking it way too seriously. It's not real animosity. It's like
you're a fan of the Cowboys or the Steelers. One isn't really better than the
other,  you're just fans of different teams. I don't dislike Dan Martin because
he drives a Bay, that's stupid. I drive a Splitty. We dig at each other
sometimes, but we both act like Mark is bad because he drives a Vanagon. Chuck
has a '65 (?) and digs at me for owning a '63 that he says is a tractor because
it has so few parts.

Duncan drives a Vanagon with a Subaru motor in it, Where the hell does he
belong? Trey drives a Eurovan and it's really hard not to shake his tree.

Lighten up or you'll be real unhappy.

Actually I would love to know the reason for the snobbery, I just dont get it.
I have owned Beetles, Busses, Vanagons, a Rabbit, a Scirocco and a Passat and
loved them all.
Whats the deal?

If you water people keep poking the the Splitty people, one of us is going to
get irritated enough to explain to you about our snobbery, so just shut up
about it. I have been biting my tongue and gritting my teeth so far...

As far as pulling up next to another VW at a light or something and them not
reacting, I have often wondered about how you can see an old Bug or Bus
(usually a bay) drive by and the question is, are they enthusiasts or just
driving an old car. For the ones driving an old car they are probably pretty
cranky that they can't afford anything newer, so, technically, they are
anti-enthusiasts.

And if they are in Texas, but are having to live in Texas, well, that could
make them cranky, too.

Driving a split is more like flying a kite than driving a vehicle.
I enjoy flying kites.

I must say I do admire you guys who are willing to drive splitties. I drove my
friend's 67 Westy back from Ennis one year and was never happier to get back
into my Bay!!!

Not sure where you got that idea from!
I know I drive a good vehicle, no inferiority here.
I am just curious why some splitty drivers seem so snobby !

Okay this is getting ridiculous!  Next thing you know we'll be breaking out in
"Kumbaya!" wearing tie dye shirts!

No worries. I am just amazed that there are so many that don't see that they
are all related and you can keep this great hobby alive without both air and
water. Yeah there are a lot of air cooled out there, I have 2 air projects
myself, but they ain't making them anymore. My Vanagon makes 2 water cooled
projects as well.  John

It's more about poking fun at people who drive bricks that should be found in
foundation walls vs. Vintage aircooleds;  not about animosity.  ;-)

Embrace you love of water-cooled VW's!
Let all others be damned if they dont like it!

I am exited! Today after work I went to Lonnie's house and changed the belts on

remember I got this VW less than a month ago and it had not run for over 3
years. Lonnie and other good friends, not to forget my father, helped her back
into running shape with just 2 Saturdays to work on the engine. My thanks goes
to Lonnie and the rest of them.

p.s. Paul, it looks like you will have another one at T@P6 ! I just won't know
