Peter - If I can find it I have the Garwood book and a few other books that
will help identify the right engine. Remind me on Saturday.

One further note: A great place to look for things "correct" is the original
owner's manuals. The samba has lots of these things in the archives and very
readable with photos. The only thing you have to watch for is a lot of times
the photos taken and printed in the manual for inforation purposes may be of
the prior year model which was all that was available when they were shooting
the photos. Also, for absolute authority on the Type I go to Garwoods books.

Peter: As for as I know the shroud for the 36 and bastard 40 are the same.
I'm just not sure about the stale air 40 that came out just after the bastard
40. And I may have at least some pieces of heater boxes for the stale 40. I
know I have some air cleaners if you can figure out which is correct for the
62. I have the early spin on type correct for the 36 bus and I think the
bastard 40. I also have the clamp on style which I think is correct for the
stale air 40 and then have the later clamp on style that has the preheater
extension and accepts the hose which I think is correct for the fresh air 40.
I also have an aftermarket stale air 40 horse bus muffler NOS but if it were me
I would use the correct German one.

      Hey Sammie,
I've been researching engines for my '62 since I went out and found an
original transaxle and front beam, and I am making "Buster" as dead on original
as possible. I need to check the 36hp fan shrown and compare it to a Bastard 40
and Stail Air 40.
What else do you have for a correct '62 stale air engine. I am
negotiating on a couple of 5 and 6 serial number engines, and I'd rather buy
from TCBers than not.
      We'll have to talk,

Way to go Peter! Does 62 have the later style fan shroud without the
heater hoses or the 36 style fan shroud? I can't remember. By the way: I
have some correct air cleaners for that engine.

done truely correctly.

Ok, here is a question for you smart bus techies (Will-Peter): Samba ad
by Jesse Kimball (related to Rich ?) "perfect" 62 23 window for big bucks
shows fresh air heat in this 62 bus. Fresh air heat did not come out on the
Type I till into the 63 model year (i.e., early 63s still had stale air heat).
So is fresh air heat correct for a 62 Type II? I think not but am still
researching for a correct answer.
