(.785 * bore * bore * stroke * cylinders) / 1000 = disp...
 
(.785 * 88 * 88 * 78.5 * 4) / 1000 = 1908
 
As for the 78.5mm crank where did you get it?  Obviously your builder.  But since his math is off, maybe his assertion on the crank length is off?  Maybe he was on Viagra that day?  Actually, I'v heard of them.  Never used them and I don't think anybody is out there grinding that size anymore.  There are some half size cranks, 74.5 that you can get but I always figure, why bother?  Go with an even size, 76, 78, 82... 86, 90 (those last two put hair on your chest)
