Will: You missed Eureka. There was a 1960 survivor car, 7,500 total miles and looked just as it did when it rolled out of the showroom. Untouched original. Ray Decker won best of show with his almost perfectly restored 60 sitting right next to it. No criticism of Ray's car, but I probably would have given the award to the survivor car. One of the reasons for all the customs: as you well know it is much more difficult to restore any car to original than to customize one. And also normally more expensive to do so. Lenny Coop will continue to get high prices for his vintage restorations. --- On Wed, 11/2/11, w.wood <evil.scientist.boo@xxxxxxxxx> wrote: From: w.wood <evil.scientist.boo@xxxxxxxxx> Subject: [tcb] Re: Chasing Classic Cars To: tcb@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Date: Wednesday, November 2, 2011, 10:06 AM Sammie, the original dubs are disappearing and it's very hard as you know to find one that's original. It's the same as asking "Find an original 32 Ford." Fundamentally I think that the prices are crazy and I agree with you, something that's been hacked shouldn't be worth all that much. I think Barrett Jackson and a few other "Auction TV" shows have changed that so now we are seeing lots of hack-em-ups going for really big bucks. What I also get from thesamba thread as well is that some of the same whiners are also perpetuating that feeding frenzy. I give Randy Carlson about as much credit for driving up prices on hack jobs as anybody.
